Shifting tides this week, as we leave the fast paced mentally active Gemini energies for the more contained energies of nurturance in Cancer.
On Tuesday/Wednesday the 20th/21st there is the important yearly transition from spring to summer at the Summer Solstice. This event happens overnight on June 21 at 12:24 AM EDT. On Friday June 23 at 10:31 PM EDT, the Cancer theme continues when the Moon meets the Sun for a New Moon in Cancer.
At the Summer Solstice, Light minutes of the day are at their greatest in relation to Dark minutes of the day. But starting then, dark minutes begin to grow while light minutes begin to wane. Then at Autumn Equinox light and dark are equal, just as they are at Spring Equinox.
Summer Solstice is symbolically similar to high noon of a day. Winter Solstice is like midnight time of day. Spring Equinox is like dawn and Autumn Equinox is like sunset.
So now the Sun is at its zenith in the northern hemisphere, as heat has been growing as well as light.
Usually at this time of year events in the world have heated up also, and this year should not be any different.
And in August, with two major eclipses, including most importantly a Total Solar Eclipse New Moon on August 21, which will travel across the USA, issues and events will then be on fire.
So for now feel the shift to summer, and to the Sun going into Cancer, which it does every year at Summer Solstice.
The sign Cancer feels right when following what feels natural at the time, and following where one’s feelings take one.
At Cancer time of year Nature is at its most abundant, and there can be a strong feeling of being taken care of by Mother Nature.
And Cancer is an archetype of Mother, whether that be personal Mother or a more Universal Mother Goddess. The Moon is the ruling “planet” of Cancer.
With the Cancer Mother, one wants to feel safe and sound, nurtured and cared for, seen and appreciated.
So many people did not get that experience from their personal Mother or Father (who can also represent that Cancer nurturer archetype).
Ou world has gotten so far away from what is natural and right, and from what the Feminine truly represents, which is why finding true Motherly care can be so difficult.
Certainly in the USA, the programming is to accomplish and be successful out in the world, often at the expense of the inner world and inner values. One is expected to Do, not just Be, which is what the sign Cancer represents.
When the Mother is taking care of a baby, she is loving it for just who it is, for just being itself. This is Cancer love, as is making this baby feel safe, nurtured and nourished.
To love someone unconditionally is Cancer at its best. To hover over, to not respect others’ boundaries, and to emote without control, is Cancer at its worst.
Cancer can also tend toward permisssiveness, in contrast to its opposite sign Capricorn, which tends toward strictness and firm rules.
So now at Cancer time of year, at the Summer Solstice and New Moon in Cancer, we will be most aligned if we can just Be; if we can do things that nurture us; if we can allow ourselves to follow our instincts and feelings more than our minds.
Cancer also represents family, both our birth family and the grown up family we develop when we have children.
Many people are disappointed with blood family from their childhood, and do not feel appreciated by that family as they grow up.
So instead more and more people are seeking a sense of family from friends and from those who one feels seen by and appreciated. One seeks family of those who are “birds of a feather” with them.
The Age of Aquarius brings us more and more connections that are beyond the traditional sense of family. This includes gay and lesbian families, or families with Trans members, or families with children who were conceived in ways other than male and female intercourse. Cloning and stem cell research is also very Aquarius.
These trends certainly will never preclude male and female mating prevailing, which has always been nature’s choice for all its creatures.
So in this New Age, the experience of family is transforming, and Cancer’s best application is knowing we are all family, all humans together in One great big, though often dysfunctional family.
This lunar cycle begun at the Cancer New Moon on June 23 is the last lunar cycle before Eclipse Season begins. Eclipse Season begins to blow in at the Leo New Moon on July 23, to be followed by a Lunar Eclipse Full Moon on August 7 and a Total Solar Eclipse New Moon on August 21.
So now at the New Moon in Cancer this week, it is time to get started, as at all New Moons.
It is best to get started on bringing things together, finding nurturing circumstances and people, and allowing your self to be loved and taken care of- by yourself and others. And of course it is a great time to nurture and care for others, especially those who are vulnerable.
The Goddess is at her strongest at Cancer time of year. It is now best to trust the Feminine forces of the Earth and Universe. Also trust your feelings, yet also trust your strength and Mother Bear protectiveness when those you love are hurting.
In the greater world Cancer time of year unfortunately often translates into a toxic family/tribal consciousness.
It becomes my family or nation or culture or religion against yours. Do not get sucked in to the fear and hatred that comes with this Hatfield/McCoy conflictual attitude.
My way is not better or worse than anyone else’s way- no matter how it appears. Each culture has its own ways that are right for them. We need to find and feed the places of connection between us.
There is great danger now of the growing splits and separations to tear us all apart and create even more inequities, abuses, and conflicts.
We are at the same time moving closer together, toward greater connection and love, more meaning and synchronicity. We are moving into a Diversity within Unity Age of Aquarius.
Both worlds are happening simultaneously.
We can no longer straddle the fence. It is time to choose a direction. Choose before the Eclipses in August. Begin to arrange your life in accordance with that choice.
