Power of Love, not the Love of Power and Astrology Forecast for April 10-16

by Leo Knighton Tallarico

Spring is here now, not nearly in full bloom yet, but the signs are everywhere.  Here in New England frogs are making mating sounds, some buds are begining to show on branches, and some flowers are beginning to bloom.   The Sun has been shining with warmer temperatures and baseball season has begun.  People generally are tending toward more shiny dispositions, though the approaching tax deadline show some still with winter frowns.

The astrological placements at or near the Aries New Moon pushed the buds of our new intentions more forcefully forward.  Our needs and expressions of personal authenticity and empowerment have gotten stronger.  We have initiated action on new aims in our lives, or at least have made intentions or plans for new ventures to be started later this spring.

Though all may not know it, our new actions and new sense of authenticity and empowerment are preparing us for the great changes ahead.  The old world and its paradigm that we used to rely on for our sense of reality and security and direction has been rapidly shifting into a world we no longer trust.

The economy that is supposed to be getting better still has many holes in it that are disturbing.     We are in a new war in Libya, while still fighting wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.     Last year we witnessed the devastation of a huge oil disaster in the Gulf near Louisiana.   That disaster brought much toxicity and destruction to our oceans and its beautiful wildlife.  This week it was reported that oil drilling will soon begin again in the Gulf.

Recently in Japan a huge Earthquake and Tsunami brought a cracking open of nuclear reactors that have spewed radioactivity in that region and beyond. It has also exposed the danger in our world from nuclear power.    And of course the radioactivity in Japan now reminds us of the nuclear bombs that the USA dropped on Japan in 1945 to end World War II.  Those two bombs droped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed over 200,000 people.   What have we humans done with the discovery of nuclear power?

This use of nuclear power is reflective of our misuse and abuse of power as humans.  We have been given the ability to create and use our power like no other creatures on Earth.  And sadly and tragically we all too often abuse that power when we attain it.

The discovery of the planet Pluto in 1930 synchronizes with discoveries of the power of the nucleus of the atom, which became nuclear power and nuclear bombs.    The planet Pluto astrologically is a lot about power and how to use it.   Its discovery in 1930 signified a time when humans would need to begin to learn how to healthily use power and not abuse it.

Interestingly, in 1930 powerful figures who were abusive of power like Stalin, Hitler, and Capone were gaining strength and getting more known in the world.  But also Ghandi that year led the Indian people in peaceful revolt against the Empire of England, a revolt which began the process of independence for India.  Ghandi, through civil disobedience, showed us how to use power for good and also how to challenge the power of the mighty Empires.

Martin Luther King followed that example with peaceful protest and civil disobedience in the ’60s, which brought more freedom to African Americans in the United States. And now in the Middle East, especially in Egypt, gains of freedom and self determination for citizens have come from peaceful demonstrations and civil disobedience.

This gives us a model for how we make it through the transition between ages. Many have found it impossible to believe that the Powers That Be, that run our world, could be broken down so that the world will truly be “of the people, by the people, and for the people”.  The Aquarian Age, like the sign of Aquarius, is about equality for all, equality within diversity, freedom and liberation, and self determination. This Aquarian Age requires that kings and queens and governments and corporations and presidents and dictators alike do not rule the people.

So it is important and in alignment that each of us is empowered as an individual, beyond being a sheep for the prevailing culture.   Our desires now to being true to our Authentic Self are important to follow.  As we each individualize, and yet stay connected to a consciousnesss of Unity, we enter the Aquarian Age inside our selves, and contribute to the movement into a better world.

Speaking of Pluto, This Week Ahead shows a strong Pluto aspect that will be experienced late this weekend and through Monday and Tuesday.  Mars will be square Pluto then.

Be on the alert for power issues and power struggles.   We are learning to effectively empower ourselves without abusing it.  Mars/Pluto can often bring about people or situations that “push our buttons” and get us angy or even enraged.  Of course we must stand up for ouselves and what we think is right and not just try to be nice and a doormat.   But it is also important not to blow up too much and get inordinately mean and cruel.   Power is a human trait that we are all trying to work out in balance.

Watch now for power issues to explode in the world around the Mars/Pluto transit.  Especially dangerous now is what is going in Israel and the Gaza Strip, and between Israel and Hamas annd Hezbollah and Iran.

We are in a waxing Moon phase this week,  as we move to a Full Moon in Aries/Libra a week from Sunday on April 17 at 10:44 PM EDT.  A waxing Moon is one that is increasing in light toward a Full Moon. After the Full Moon the light diminishes and is then called a waning Moon.

This week, during a waxing Moon, energies and actions are increasing. So continue moving forward with what was initiated near the New Moon last week.

Keep in mind that Mercury is still retrograde and will remain so until April 23.  So sometimes your mind may play tricks on you, so you can look at things a whole new way.    It is a good time to reflect and get more imaginative and creative with your thinking, not a good time to force thinking or to get too analytical or obsessive.

As we have speaking about in earlier writings, this will be a most powerful spring season of change.  There are three eclipses in a row on June 1, June 15 and July 1.  So later this season energies of change will increase significantly. We will be taken out of our usual comfort zones and balance, and into new transformational rhythyms.   If what you have recently initiated has not moved fast enough, don’t worry, everthing will accelerate much more later.

Take care till next week,

Leo
