This week we move through the Winter Solstice followed by a Full Moon in Cancer.
The Winter Solstice is on December 21 at 11:41 PM EST. At that time, like in every other year, the Sun simultaneously goes into Capricorn.
At the Winter Solstice we experience the most dark minutes of a day here in the Northern Hemisphere of planet Earth.
But it is a turning point, because beginning at the Winter Solstice there will be a growing amount of light every day until the Summer Solstice.
The Summer Solstice is exactly the opposite experience, light reaches its zenith, and then afterwards every day will have increasingly dark minutes until Winter Solstice.
So cultures have always seen that at the darkest day of the year, hope comes alive knowing the Spring Equinox is only a few months away.
Spring Equinox is when light catches up to dark in equality, but afterwards light is more supreme every day until Summer Solstice.
And stories of the birth of Christ are part of this time of hope for a better future.
Christ’s supposed birth date on December 25 is celebrated only a few days after the Solstice, but it is doubtful he was born then. March is a more likely time for his birth.
But Christianity used the general time period of nature and pagan ritual of Winter Solstice to celebrate the return of light at the Christmas holiday.
Regardless of what you believe in this regard, the Winter Solstice is a great time to meditate or be a part of ceremony and ritual.
Nature is letting us know that we are entering Winter, with its colder and darker time period- yet we know the hope of spring is “in the air”.
Many people do get depressed on the days leading up to the Solstice and sometimes even afterwards. The Holidays can be difficult for some.
But if you can let your self naturally feel the “down” energy leading up to the Solstice, you can then get connected to the shift to the beginnings of more light and “up” energy at the time of the Winter Solstice.
Remember that planetary movements and cycles are Nature speaking to our souls. If we stay in tune with Nature we lead a more “organic” life.
Ironically, however, the Winter Solstice is the beginning of a month that has the Sun in Capricorn.
Capricorn does not honor nature so much, and instead feels that we need boundaries, rules, and often strict guidelines to protect us from nature’s wildness.
Capricorn metaphorically builds dams to protect us from water out of control; builds special structures to protect us from earthquakes or hurricanes; and of course builds us homes to protect us from many of nature’s ways, like wild animals or extreme temperatures.
Capricorn’s “ruling” planet is Saturn. Saturn is gravity, time, limits, obligations, rules, commandments, and successful achievements.
Arguably, no matter how much natural talent one has, one needs to have discipline, to organize and plan. This is a Capricorn’s way of harnessing nature so it works for you, not out of control and then against your plans for achievement and success in the world.
To counter this time of Sun in Capricorn, on Christmas Day December 25 at 6:12 AM EST, the Moon will be in Cancer exactly opposite the Sun in Capricorn. That forms a Full Moon, as all full moons have the Sun exactly and directly opposite the Moon.
So now the controls, rules, obligations, discipline and focus on achievement represented by the Sun in Capricorn meets its match with the Moon in Cancer.
The Moon’s “favorite” sign is Cancer, as the Moon’s more gentle rays find comfort in the nurturance of Cancer.
Moon in Cancer represents soul and inner values. Moon in Cancer trusts nature and human feelingss even if those feelings break open into expressions without boundaries and rules.
Capricorn puts up strict boundaries for the sake of answering to the demands of the outer world with its limits and rules.
Cancer is open to anything that is organic and natural and cares more about the “inner child’s” needs than anything else.
It will put up with moods and emotional volatility and change, no matter what as it wants to support and protect the soul from outer demands or frustrations.
So Cancer wants to nurture and protect all that is vulnerable and innocent: children, elderly, disabled, etc.
Capricorn wants to protect also, but it wants to portect against anything or anyone that would take it off the track of its orientation for achievement and its desire to build, organize and plan.
Capricorn is structure and form, and Cancer is the soul’s energy and feelings.
So at this Full Moon in Capricorn/ Cancer do your best to balance the more allowing and permissive side of you (Cancer) with the more strict and demanding side of yourself (Capricorn).
Too much Capricorn brings us a flat line world of rules and commandments without soul and feeling and empathy.
Too much Cancer is overly protective and pernissive with feelings and moods that are not controlled.
It is a good time at this Full Moon to balance your concentration on personal inner directed family matters (Cancer) with your more professional career and outer directed matters (Capricorn).
Interestingly this year there is Uranus changing directions from Retrograde to Direct on the day of the Full Moon.
This unusual occurrence may promise a more “outside the box” Christmas Day or a time of breaking away from old family patterns. or a feeling of rebellion or wanting to be different.
We are coming to the end of a very powerfully transformational year, in fact two years 2014 and 2015.
When we look back on these two years we will even more clearly see how important they have been.
Globally we have entered a whole new era. And 2016 and 2017 will give us the fallout from the events of those two years.
America has really changed and transformed. It is adjusting to the new threats and to its growing role as a more equal member of the world community.
It is struggling to come back to its better principles and ideals instead of a higher priority on money and might.
There is a strong tide of change rolling in, and an equally strong energy to try to hold back the tide of that change.
The political arena is where much of this will play out as there is a presidential election late in 2016.
But there are many others now who know that the conventional political route is a dead end for positive change and evolution.
They go through their transformation and evolution in other ways. Now with social media and internet connecting us to so much beyond the old ways, and with many others wanting to live a more simple and natural life- we have much to hang onto besides the corruption and flat line energies of the political, governmental, global corporate, and militaristic old world.
The next couple of weeks we will present to you a forecast for 2016.
Enjoy the solstice and holiday time this week as best you can.
Till next week,
Leo
